Infosys layoffs employees : 240 trainees fired

According to a Moneycontrol report, Infosys has terminated 240 junior employees following their failure to pass internal evaluations. The tech services major is providing complimentary skill enhancement programs to impacted employees via partnerships with NIIT and upGrad. This development was confirmed after Moneycontrol reviewed an email sent by Infosys on April 18, which stated that the employees did not meet the qualifying criteria of the company’s internal training program. A similar incident took place earlier in February when over 300 trainees were let go under comparable circumstances. Infosys is once again providing free training to impacted staff members, collaborating with NIIT for IT-related courses and upGrad for BPM-focused education.

The IT industry is seeing a slowdown in demand at the time of these layoffs. Infosys revised its FY26 revenue growth estimate from 4.5 to 5% to a more cautious 0–3% in constant currency terms during its Q4 results report on Thursday. According to the email dated April 18, "After reviewing the results of your last assessment attempt, please be advised that you have not satisfied the requirements for the Generic Foundation Training Program, even after additional study time, sessions to dispel any doubts, three attempts, and numerous practice exams. You will therefore be unable to proceed with your trainee program trip".

The email then included

"As you begin seeking new career opportunities beyond Infosys, we intend to assist you through dedicated professional outplacement support," the email stated. We would like to offer you an alternate career path that is entirely financed by Infosys and backed by externally provided training to assist you prepare for future opportunities in the BPM sector. You can also apply for open positions at Infosys BPM Ltd. after finishing the training satisfactorily.  As an alternative, you can sign up for another Infosys-sponsored training course that focuses on IT basics if you want to keep improving your IT abilities.

In addition to the upskilling help, participants receive a month's salary, accommodation, and transportation expenses from the Mysuru training center to Bengaluru or their hometown.

Infosys has teamed up with upGrad to offer BPM-focused programs and partnered with NIIT to offer IT training. In February, the impacted trainees received the same offer, which allowed them to sign up for these free upskilling courses.
